Bob Moore Kickflip Skate Park - NOW OPEN!
The Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Skate Park, located at Etowah Park, was built in 1995. Since that time, it had been used extensively and was in need of repair and upgrading. The park is approximately 21,000 square feet. The property is owned by the Floyd County Board of Commissioners.
In 2017, the voters of Floyd County approved a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) to refurbish the skate park in the amount of $150,000.
In 2021, the Floyd County Board of Commissioners approved American Ramp Company for design and construction of the skate park.
Four generations of the Moore family, starting in the early 1900s with F.L. Moore's Cycle Shop, worked in the business. Bob and Peggy Moore continued mentoring young and old cyclists and sold bicycles and skateboards until 2003. The shop was sold to Michael and Donna Carver and closed in 2009. Several members of the community proposed to have the skate park renamed and dedicated in honor of Bob Moore who died on March 4, 2021. This name change was approved by the Floyd County Board of Commissioners.
This ceremony renames the facility the Bob Moore Kickflip Skate Park.
