Victim Assistance Program

Who We Are

The Floyd County Victim Witness Assistance Program was established in 1986 as a department of the Rome District Attorney’s Office. We currently employ a Program Director and 5 Victim Advocates.

What We Do

Victim Advocates provide notification of court events & support to crime victims and their families. Victim Advocates ensure that victims are afforded the rights to which they are entitled under the Georgia Crime Victims Bill of Rights. Services provided to victims by this program include, but are not limited to:

  • Notification of all Superior Court hearings and proceedings, including scheduling changes, at the written request of the victim
  • Information on the status and progress of the case
  • A liaison to the court along with the prosecutor/Assistant District Attorney who has been assigned to the criminal case
  • Arrange Interpreter services if needed
  • Accompaniment & support of victims to court proceedings
  • Providing a safe and secure area for victims and witnesses to wait before testifying
  • Assistance in Family Violence hearings if there is a pending criminal case
  • Information and referrals to social service agencies, counseling services and other organizations
  • Assistance in completing forms
    • Notification Request, Victim Impact Statement, Crime Victims Compensation Application, Restitution Request, etc.

The Victim Assistance Program accepts volunteer interns from local high schools and colleges.  Send resumes and letters of interest to Sandra.Kunneman@floydcountyga.org.
