Landfill Information & Fees
The Walker Mountain Landfill is managed by the City of Rome's Solid Waste Processing and Disposal Department. The Rome-Floyd Solid Waste Commission governs both the Walker Mountain Landfill and the Rome-Floyd Recycling Center.
Hours of Operation:
Monday - Friday: 8:00AM to 4PM
Saturday: 8:00AM to 2:00PM
Sunday: CLOSED
The landfill is meant for things that are not accepted at remote sites. We no longer accept bagged household garbage as of June 1, 2021. We will make an exception and accept household garbage only if you have large, bulky items.
We DO accept:
- Man-made items, garbage, wood, furniture, tires, and bulky items. Please see the landfill disposal fees below.
We DO NOT accept:
- Household garbage
- Mixed loads - A mixed load is considered anything mixed with inert (limbs, leaves, dirt, rock). There are different liners to keep things from penetrating the soil. Inert material is natural, comes from the earth, and goes back into the earth. Man-made items, garbage, wood, furniture has to go into the lined landfill area where there are layers of liners so it does not seep into the ground. You CAN mix construction debris and garbage, as it all goes to the same place.
- Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, paint, tires on the rim, asbestos, liquids, batteries
