Update on P.A.W.S. Closure

Update on P.A.W.S. Closure
8.6.2024

On August 1, 2024, during routine shelter checks, P.A.W.S. staff discovered a dog showing symptoms possibly indicative of distemper. Distemper is a highly contagious viral disease that can cause serious illness and even death in dogs. The dog was promptly taken to the UGA Diagnostic Lab for testing.

Given the severity of distemper, after consultation with Department of Agriculture the decision was made to quarantine the shelter until test results were complete. While P.A.W.S. is still awaiting these results, it has been reported that no other animals have shown any signs of illness.

P.A.W.S. appreciates your patience during this time, as we are all anxiously awaiting the outcome. We apologize for any inconvenience this situation may be causing and thank you for your understanding.
