Scrap Tire Amnesty Days

FLOYD COUNTY
SOLID WASTE SETS DATE FOR SCRAP TIRE AMNESTY DAYS

Floyd County residents are invited to drop off scrap tires for free on Friday, August 25 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Saturday, August 26, 2023 from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the GE Plant located at 1389 Redmond Circle, Rome, GA 30165. No appointment is necessary. Guidelines for the event are below.

GUIDELINES

  • 10 tires per vehicle, limit two farm tractor tires
  • Must have Floyd county tag or other proof of residency (license, tax bill, utility bill)
  • No commercial tires (tractor trailer, skid steer, fork lift)
  • No tires on rim
  • Tires must be clean and dry
  • Multiple trips are not allowed for individuals or vehicles

The Tire Amnesty Event is made possible thanks to a grant from the Environmental Protection Division’s (EPD) Local Government Scrap Tire Abatement Reimbursement (STAR) Program. This grant will reimburse Floyd County for the cost of transporting and processing scrap tires. It is funded from Georgia’s Solid Waste Trust Fund. This event is also made possible through the time and effort of employees of the following departments: Floyd County Public Works, City of Rome Public Works, and the Rome-Floyd Recycling Center.

"We are happy to be able to host a Scrap Tire Amnesty Day to provide an easy way for citizens to recycle tires," says Emma Wells, Director. "During the summer especially, scrap tires can create a health hazard and make your backyard a breeding ground for mosquitoes. We hope citizens will take advantage of this free opportunity to dispose of up to ten tires for free!"
